I do not participate in network with insurance companies for a variety of reasons.
-
When participating with insurance companies, the insurance company can influence treatment decisions, and decide what services you do or do not require. As a provider, I find this very problematic.
Your treatment decisions should be made collaboratively between you and me, not your insurance company.
This is particularly problematic for EMDR treatment which many insurance companies will only approve for a PTSD diagnosis.
EMDR benefits extend far beyond this one diagnosis.
In-network my ability to provide care to those without a PTSD diagnosis would be seriously limited.
DENIED CLAIMS
When claims are denied by insurance companies financial burdens can fall on you (the patient) and/or me (the provider). Insurance is notoriously difficult to work with (for providers and for clients) and claim denials are common.

To participate in-network with insurance companies, your insurance company must be able to access information regarding your treatment. This provides your insurance company with access to information that you may not prefer to share. I believe that you should be as in control of your health information as possible, and if I were to bill in-network you and I would each of less control over what is and is not shared.
Note: some insurance companies do require that diagnosis is listed on claim documentation, even when receiving treatment out-of-network. If you have concerns about this please let me know.

My practice model helps ensure that the patients in my practice are able to access my care regularly and in a timely manner.
What you can expect from me:
After your session, you will receive a bill from me. This payment is due upon receipt.
After you make this payment you will receive a special invoice from me called a “Superbill”.
This will be needed to seek reimbursement from your insurance company.
Requesting out-of-network reimbursement
It is your responsibility to request reimbursement from your insurance company if you choose. Please note: I cannot guarantee insurance reimbursement. I recommend discussing this with your insurance company directly, prior to your appointment.
The overall process varies between companies and it is best for you to discuss this with them.
